My day tour trip to Quebec City took me to Parc dela Chute-Montmorency Quebec City Day Trip – HER//Excursions trip to Quebec City (herexcursions.com). The Montmorency Falls are the star of the show here. A lot of the park activities are geared to enjoying the view. Opportunities abound though to hike, snowshoe and even ice climb in winter. Summer activities include full use of the cable car, picnicing as well as visiting the orchard. Given limited time, the focus of the visit was the 83-meter (272 feet) Montmorency Falls Parc de la Chute-Montmorency – Quebec City – Canada – Sépaq (sepaq.com). As a point of reference, the falls are about 100 feet taller than Niagara Falls!
MONTMORENCY FALLS
It’s a short walk from the parking lot to get onto the boardwalk. Strolling the boardwalk offers magnificent views of the river below. A series of stairs brought me to the Belvedere of the Baroness. This is a series of decks enabling viewing the Falls and suspension bridge from partway below. The view also takes in the rivers and bridge below. Likely a consequence of the time of year, and weather, foot traffic was minimal. Most of the people I encountered on the deck and stairs were from my small tour group.
The suspension bridge did have a little it more traffic. However, again it was clear enough to move around freely. The thundering water flowing below somewhat thick ice and snow only to freefall over the rock and crash thunderously below had me mesmerized. It was like no other experience I had ever had. This view above the Falls was my favorite.
The visit concluded at Manoir Montmorency. The large, grand manor situated in the heart of the park, near parking. It features reception rooms that can be used for events. Importantly, though for the day visitor, the manor contains seasonal eateries Restaurants and Food Services – Parc de la Chute-Montmorency – Sepaq. I was just happy to be able to use a bathroom and relax in an armchair as I utilized the wifi.
Do not let winter stop you from making a visit. It is, in fact, one of the best times to visit the Falls and Park.
